A Navy Veteran, Mark Anthony moved to Wilmington in 1998 and received his degree in Business Administration from Mount Olive College.

He has been a sought after investment consultant, featured on various radio and TV programs. After several years as a Lead Trader and consultant with various wealth management institutions he decided to join forces with a select group of experienced professions and founded LPS Investments with the belief that Investment Advisors should be trained as market guidance and risk management experts first and foremost, not as pure sales reps.

He and his partners offer white glove service and work independently with individuals, families, and businesses to build financial plans and portfolios that meet the specific needs of each individual. He works closely with extensively vetted professionals in various fields so that his clients have access to the highest quality service no matter what their needs are.

He currently resides in Odgen with his beautiful wife Kim and his Beagle Leah.

Jay Shivar – Legacy Consulting Group

Jay Shivar is an Air Force Veteran and Reservist with over 10 years of experience the Life Insurance and Financial Services business. He began his career as a life insurance agent and financial advisor with Northwestern Mutual.

In 2011, Jay was awarded the Life Insurance Wholesaler of the Year award for Jackson National Life Distributors, LLC. Jay was most recently the Vice President and Director of Insurance for American Capital Wealth Management, Inc.

Jay lives in Wilmington, North Carolina and enjoys beach time with family, golf, and traveling.

Deborah  Mosca, PhD

Dr. Mosca is the Chief Executive Officer of the Marine Bio-Technologies Center of Innovation. She has 31 years of experience in biotech research and commercial organizations. As the CEO, Deb Mosca is responsible for creating the business strategy to help commercialize marine bio-technologies from North Carolina’s vast network of premier marine research institutions. Part of the strategy is the cultivation of a collaborative environment among universities, businesses, funding agencies, economic development agencies, marine biotech research advisory groups throughout North Carolina as well as national and international partners to deliver economic benefits statewide.

Previously she served as the Vice President of Project Management at PaxVax, Inc. in San Diego, CA. There, she obtained $24 million in National Institute of Health funding to develop an Anthrax vaccine and $9.5 million for an HIV vaccine. Prior to that, she served as the Senior Director of Business Development at The Scripps Research Institute in San Diego, where she was responsible for executing the business plan for Scripps Florida. Dr. Mosca has also held positions as a research biologist, group leader for American Cyanamid Co., Senior Director of Microbiology for IntraBiotics Pharmaceuticals, Vice President of Drug Development for Elitra Pharmaceuticals, and Vice President for Research & Preclinical Development at Nereus Pharmaceuticals.

Dr. Mosca obtained a B.S. in Genetics from Cornell University, and a Ph.D. in Biology from State University of New York, Buffalo.

Connie Majure-Rhett, a native of Columbia, SC, is president and CEO of the Greater Wilmington (NC) Chamber of Commerce, a position she has held since April 4, 1994. Majure-Rhett has more than 35 years of experience in chamber of commerce management, having served on chamber staffs in Charlotte, NC; Cobb County, GA, and Atlanta, GA.

Prior to joining the Wilmington Chamber, Majure-Rhett spent three years in Washington, DC, serving as vice president of National Small Business United, a non-partisan small business lobbying group. Her many involvements in the community include serving on the Convention Center Advisory board, the Mayor’s Blue Ribbon for the Prevention of Youth Violence, and UNCW’s Cameron School of Business Executive Advisory Board. She is a past board member of Leadership North Carolina, the North Carolina Center for Public Policy Research and the North Carolina Film Commission.  A Rotarian, she is a Paul Harris Fellow and past president of the Wilmington Rotary Club.

Connie was named the 1998 Wilmington YWCA Woman of Achievement for Business and Industry.  She was also named North Carolina Chamber of Commerce Executive of the Year in 2001. A magna cum laude graduate of the University of South Carolina, she is also a graduate of the Institute for Organization Management, Georgia Tech’s Economic Development Institute and Leadership North Carolina.  She has completed the Center for Creative Leadership’s chamber executive program and, in 2000, earned the professional chamber management designation, CCE (Certified Chamber Executive).

Connie is married to Haskell Smith Rhett III and is stepmother to 27 year-old Hannah and 25 year-old Walter. She considers Maddie, her standard poodle, her third child.

Rob Gerlach- TLCC, LLC

Rob Gerlach, as a Senior Partner of TLCC, LLC, specializes in transformational leadership development within the context of implementing strategic projects that are targeting transformational  results (learn while doing).  He has been in the business of developing transformational leaders since 1990.

Rob was born and raised in Buffalo, NY and attended Cleveland State University where he earned his degree in Chemical Engineering. He worked for the DuPont Corporation for 30 years, serving in numerous management roles in a number of locations. Rob earned the reputation of being an “agent of change”, which led to his becoming an internal consultant in 1990. In 1993, Rob left DuPont to form his own consulting business.

Rob has significant experience in strategic planning and strategic project implementation, as well as coaching leaders to develop transformational leadership behaviors and skills that inspire employees to achieve “step change” results.

Susan Eaton has lived in Wilmington for over 4 years and serves as General Manager of the Wilmington Convention Center of behalf of SMG, the world largest private management firm for public assembly facilities.  Susan oversees the day to day operations of the Center and the in-house food & beverage operation, along with the outdoor event space. Susan has had a 29 year progressive career in Managing, Marketing, Sales, and Operations in five Convention Centers to include: Rochester, NY,   Miami Beach,  McCormick Place in Chicago and Knoxville, Tennessee, Wilmington, NC.

Susan’s education includes a B.S. Degree in Business majoring Hotel  & Tourism Marketing from the RIT in Rochester, NY  and an Associates degree from SUNY New York in Food Administration.

Allen Quigley

Allen Quigley grew up in Poughkeepsie, NY and attended Duke University.  He is a retired US Naval Flight Officer on P3C anti-submarine aircraft. He has over 30 years as a sales and marketing professional experience in metropolitan NYC working in a diverse set of industries, primarily technology related.  He has managed direct and indirect sales channels with focus on building strategic partnerships. Allen is also a co-owner of The Dixie Grill restaurant.

Allen currently owns Lawson Gray Consulting, LLC, a business broker and consulting firm. He works with profitable businesses to find qualified buyers in Eastern North Carolina, and innovative sales and marketing executive specializing in creating and executing new sales channels to accelerate revenue growth. Utilizing a “one-to-many” approach, mutually beneficial relationships are created that leverage the existing customer base while uncovering new business relationships. A strong business acumen through vast experience across many industries and disciplines. He is comfortable working from the field sales level up to the board room. The goal is to find new revenue streams where they didn’t exist before. Allen is a member of Rotary International, Wilmington Downtown Inc, and a Pilates instructor at the YMCA.

Chris George

Chris George, based in Wilmington, N.C., serves as senior vice president and Retail regional manager for PNC Bank, where he oversees consumer banking for more than 15 branches in Wilmington and surrounding areas.  With nearly three decades of experience in the banking industry, Chris has served PNC Bank and its predecessors for more than 20 years in various leadership roles across North and South Carolina including Retail, Investments and Commercial Banking.  He received his bachelor’s degree in Finance from the University of Montana.  A long-time Wilmington resident with his wife and three children, he is actively involved in the local community, including leadership roles with the Boys & Girls Club, Boy Scouts, the Chamber of Commerce and other volunteer service projects.

David Rizzo- NC IDEA

David serves as the President and CEO of NC IDEA, and is also a Venture Partner with NC IDEA Funds, the organization’s affiliated venture fund. David brings more than 25 years of leadership experience in general management, strategic planning, acquisitions and divestitures and corporate finance and investment within technology-based business environments. In addition, David has established a proven track record of entrepreneurial success. He has keen insight and knowledge of interplay among technology, economics and public policy.

David is recognized nationally as a visionary for technology-led economic development. This passion led him to a position as President and CEO of MCNC, a private, non-profit created to be a catalyst for technology-based economic development throughout North Carolina. David strategically realigned the company into three separate organizations – including the creation and leadership of MCNC Ventures. David also led the company through a restructuring that resulted in the spin-off of MCNC Research & Development Institute (now NC IDEA).

David is actively involved in North Carolina’s technology community and has held numerous leadership positions with civic and professional associations. He currently serves on the boards of NC IDEA, CED (Council for Entrepreneurial Development), STI TechInventures, Affinergy, Strikeiron and Ziptronix. Previously, David served as Chairman of NCTA (North Carolina Technology Association) and on the boards of Chorus Systems, Unitive Technologies, the Kenan Institute’s Center for Entrepreneurship, Intervolve and the Governor’s Board of Science and Technology.

David received a B.A. in Economics from the College of William & Mary. He also studied at the Wharton School’s Financial Services Institute and The Brookings Institute’s Public Policy Issues in the Financial Services Industry.

Laura Baverman is the editor of ExitEvent, a two-year-old Triangle-based news site covering early stage startups and entrepreneurs. She’s also a freelance columnist for USA Today, writing the Startups and Entrepreneurs column every two weeks for print and online.  Before taking the role at ExitEvent in February 2014, Laura spent more than a year covering entrepreneurship as a freelance journalist for USA Today, Upstart Business Journal and a handful of North Carolina news media. Before that, she spent eight years as a daily business reporter for the Cincinnati Enquirer, where she initiated its coverage of startups in 2010, and the Cincinnati Business Courier. She’s covered Fortune 500 companies, real estate, technology, retail and sustainability. Ed Wolverton- Wilmington Downtown Inc.

Ed Wolverton is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Wilmington Downtown Incorporated (WDI).  As the leader of this economic development organization since November 2013, Ed is responsible for developing programs and initiatives to stimulate new investment and activity in Downtown Wilmington including retail, office, residential, hospitality, educational and other similar projects.

Mr. Wolverton has twenty-eight years of downtown and economic development experience.  Prior to joining WDI, Ed was President and CEO of Downtown Greensboro Incorporated where he led efforts that helped stimulate over $290 million in new investment over his tenure.  Successful projects included growing the Downtown residential base by 75%, recruiting a new grocery store and sustaining a commercial lease occupancy rate of 90% or better.  He also operated a 2-acre public park, enhanced public safety levels and services for the nighttime economy, directed a cleanliness program that eliminated of 150 tons of litter and debris on an annual basis and directed a marketing and branding campaign to better define public perceptions and attitudes about Downtown.

His organizations have won six International Downtown Association (IDA) Achievement Awards, two Downtown Development awards from Kansas and three Governor’s Award for Excellence in Downtown Development from the State of Georgia.  He also earned the prestigious Art Advocate award from the Wichita Arts Council in 2006.  Ed was elected to serve two terms on the Board of Directors of the International Downtown Association from 2006 through 2012 and he has chaired the organization’s Awards Committee for the past three years.  He is currently serving as the Immediate Past Chairman of North Carolina Downtown Development Association.

Mr. Wolverton also worked with Downtown organizations in Wichita, Kansas, Charlotte, North Carolina and Savannah.  He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Mississippi State University.  Ed was also a President’s Scholar, a Dean Scholar, a member of Pi Alpha Alpha Honorary Fraternity, Sigma Chi Fraternity and a trainer for the Mississippi State football team.  He resides in Wilmington with his wife, Melissa.
